Target Audience is Administrators, Director’s of Nursing and MDS Coordinators. Interdisciplinary team members are welcome.

Continuing Education*:

This course is *pending approved for 16 hours continuing education activity by the Louisiana Board of Nursing Facility Administrators and Louisiana State Board of Nursing.

Fee:

Registration fee is $300.00 per person. The full amount is due no later than July 31, 2010. Registration fee after July 31, 2010 is $350.00 per person. Full amount is due on the day of the class.

Participants that do not pay in full on the date of the class will be denied access to the seminar.

Course Description

The Agentive MDS 3.0 training course is based on the CMS Train The Trainer Conference that we participated in this past April 2010. The course materials will also incorporate information from the SNF Open Door Forum Conference Calls as well as CMS SNF PPS Conference Calls. Additional information has been provided by staff members Certified in MDS 3.0 from the AANAC and the NRAI organizations.

This two day training course will review each MDS 3.0 section in detail including coding requirements, coding nuances and coding examples. We will discuss the processes recommended by CMS for the completion of each section and specifics related to the questionnaires and tests involved. Significant time will be spent on the interview techniques and processes as well as the changes to ADL section and the RAP to CAA transition. Schedules and planning tools will be provided for transition from MDS 2.0 to MDS 3.0, timeline changes related to completion of the MDS and transmissions.

Objectives

Attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the due dates and timelines associated with MDS 3.0 completion
  • Describe the ADL changes and index calculations
  • Understand and implement CMS recommended interviewing techniques & processes
  • Implement the new wound staging criteria for Section M
  • Understand the proper use of visual aids and tools for pain assessments
  • Determine the proper usage of each MDS 3.0 forms, in particular OMRAs
  • Understand the two new CAA items and the utilization of the CAA to care plan process
  • Describe the coding of Section O and the RUG impact
  • Complete the MDS 3.0 accurately
